My Rating: 11/10

Code Geass is the story of Lelouch, a genius prince in disguise as a schoolboy to escape war, and wants to change the world for his blind sister, Nunnally, who is bound to a wheelchair. He one day encounters a strange and mysterious green haired girl who grants him power to fulfill his goal. With the new power of Geass, Lelouch adopts the face of Zero and begins his crusade, to which this is the story of.

When I saw Code Geass for the first time, I marathoned it without even thinking. It was too good to put down. Action packed, strategical, and tactically filled with amazing characters from each side of the war. One thing in particular I love about Code Geass is that it doesn't label the "good" or "bad" side, which makes it even more exciting to watch the everchanging tides of battle. In fact, sometimes it is confusing to keep up with how many sides develop from the original two sides, who's on which side, and who is loyal to who. Questions like "what motivates them" or "how will war result in peace" or "is this peace or is this just suppression" or "who's evil and who's good" will be answered in this anime. Another thing this anime achieves successfully is that it NEVER reveals too much and always has you at the edge of your seat. DO NOT look up spoilers for this anime before watching because it will ruin the experience. Code Geass relies on tactics, suspense, and unpredictable plot twists to be the exciting anime many otakus acclaim it to be. When I walked in, I had no idea what to expect, but what I got was an anime that quickly became my favorite anime of all time and hasn't fell from that rank ever since.

Prior to Code Geass, I was not the hugest fan of mecha animes, but CG opened that door with awesome mecha fights that honestly excited me. The majority of fights in Code Geass are mecha fights, but the true fun comes with their psychological side as well. Unlike other animes like Gundam of Evangelion, Code Geass' mecha fights focus more on the fights themselves than "bonding with the suit" or something of the sort. I believe both mecha and non-mecha fans will enjoy this type of battle, and just because normal mecha fights do not appeal to you should not rule out watching CG. Code Geass is an exhilarating adventure that shouldn't be missed.

Even as a 2006 anime, the art of Code Geass is really well done, sharp, and well animated. The visuals are pretty fascinating and the characters are each drawn uniquely. The soundtrack is a HUGE highlight of this anime with some of the best OPs and ENDs, and soundtrack throughout. Geass soundtrack is easily recognizable and unique to its franchise and makes the anime that much more exciting to watch. Also, this is an anime that actually has a good dub, so if you are a dub fan or a sub&dub fan, you are in luck! I am majorly just a sub fan, but Code Geass was one of the few animes I enjoyed a LOT in the dub, especially the voice acting. In addition, the dub keeps the OPs and ENDs in Japanese, so you can still enjoy those in their original form. Incredible voice acting from both the sub and dub, and it is truly a well made anime on ALL spectrums.

Here's another thing about Code Geass. Without spoiling, I would like to add that it has the perfect ending for its type of series. Some fans may or may not agree, but what matters is not that every story ends happily, but that it ends in a way that is fitting to its kind, Code Geass does exactly that. It also sets the stage well for a third season, which was well rumored for, and there is evidence to prove that a third season could indeed be likely. However, the studio confirmed they were currently not working on a new season. But you might be wondering, how could Code Geass have a perfect ending for its kind, but also set the stage for an additional season? I can not reveal the answer to that without spoiling, but lets just say Code Geass is the only anime that can really pull of that phenomenon.

I know this is not the first review to call Code Geass the best anime ever, but it truly is. You might have seen it topping the charts on a youtube top 10s list, or maybe even seen some hate comments towards it. Either way, its up to you to decide. It's a very popular anime and well-known throughout the community, so if you are just getting started in the anime world, this is an anime you should definitely check out soon.

Code Geass is great for fans who enjoy the psychological aspects of war, questioning loyalties, dark rebellions, and edge-of-your-seat action with a super power twist! Fans of animes like Death Note, Guilty Crown, Phi-Brain, Gundam 00, Fullmetal Alchemist, Neon Genesis Evangelion, or Gurren Laggan should definitely check out this anime!
